About the Heirloom Session

Okotoks Newborn Photographer

The Heirloom Session includes family and baby pictures during your newborn session! This is a longer session where we’ll start with the family portion.

During the family portion of your session I will start with sibling poses to get your little one comfortable in front of the camera. After the sibling portion we will move onto the first parent and baby and then include the second parent, and then siblings! Both Mom and Dad will have their own individual pictures taken with baby and then we’ll also include any siblings with the parents.

Once the family portion of the session is finished, siblings are welcome to hang out in the sitting area, but they will not be allowed to hang out in the shooting area as there’s just not enough room and too many fragile items!

After the family session I will keep baby fully wrapped and pose them in various props that are specially designed for newborns. I typically do 2-3 different setups for the heirloom session.

Next we will either take time to feed the baby or move onto the classic poses which can take a little longer than the prop poses. I like to make sure your baby is still nice and sleepy before we start the classic poses. During the classic poses I’ll move through 2-3 different poses!

The heirloom session can take up to 4 hours due to all the setups and time we take to ensure baby is comfortable!

If you’re looking for a gallery that has a wide variety of poses that also includes family photos, the heirloom is the perfect session for you!

Tips For A Successful Session

  1. Please be patient. Newborn sessions are long and if you become stressed, your baby can also sense that stress and won’t be easily settled. While most sessions only take 2 hours, there are times when we can take a full 3 hours.
  2. Babies with full bellies sleep much better than babies who are hungry. While I understand that in these early days you are still getting used to a feeding schedule, please know that we may feed your baby more than often to ensure they have a full belly and are happy. If I see your baby rooting on their fingers, I will ask that you feed your baby a little more.
  3. Pacifiers can mean either a rough or smooth session. If your baby is not using a pacifier, I do ask that you bring one for the session. Sometimes a pacifier can really help your baby settle into a pose.
  4. Siblings and Extra Hands! If we are photographing an older sibling, please have someone available to take the sibling home once their portion of the session is over. 3 hours is a long time for them to wait around, in a warm space, having to sit still and quiet. I’ve found that if a grandparent can take the sibling home, it creates a much more relaxing environment for the remainder of your session.
  5. Safety is my first priority. I have extensive training in handling your newborn baby and posing them safely. If you ever have a question about a certain pose, please ask!
